I want to make an Iron Man suit and help people.
Meet Adam Jawadwala, a fourth grader from MSB Private School, Dubai, whose ambitions of being a scientific genius are inspired by his idol—Iron Man.
In an interview with GEMA discussing Adam’s project, his thoughts on winning the Young Scientist Award, his support system, and his future goals, the young scientist expressed feeling proud when he won the accolade.
“I felt like a real young scientist,” Adam claimed, eagerly explaining his project involving hybrid energy streetlights. By combining solar panels and vibration pads–two sustainable energy sources to produce light; Adam’s project showcased his diligence and interest in science.
What challenges did you face while working on this project?
Adam shared that difficulty in researching a topic based on piezoelectric materials, which are lesser known, served as a frustrating obstacle. Yet, with proper guidance from his father and science teacher, Adam was able to create a project worth winning.
He explained how while on a drive with his father, he noticed that the highway had no lights which could be dangerous. This incident planted the idea in his mind for his project. Adam believes using vibration pads and piezoelectric technology which absorbs vibrations from cars to convert them into energy can serve as an innovative approach to tackling road safety.
Who’s your science hero?
In real childlike fashion, Adam’s interest in science and robotics arises from his favourite hero—Tony Stark.
“That’s when I realised science can solve problems in fun and innovative ways,” Adam commented on the first time he watched an Iron-Man movie.
His goals in the future include making a fully functioning Iron-Man suit to help humans make the most of their capabilities. He wants to gain knowledge by working on smaller robotic suits while building up to his big magnum opus.
Ask Why?
“Because science has answers to very interesting questions,” Adam urges ambitious young scientists to ask questions. According to Adam, science is not only fun but it can also help solve real-world problems such as pollution and global warming.
He acknowledged the results of his experiments and what he learned during his research as the most fun part of preparing his project. His genuine love for science shone through his elaborative and witty answers.
Adam’s intelligence and well-spoken attitude reflect the spirit of many more young scientists and Iron Men who are yet to gain recognition and appreciation.
